Iktomi the Weaver

Iktomi (the) Weaver | 17 x 20 cm | Gel-ink pen, Watercolour, Heavy card-stock.

Working on some drawings/illustrations for university + possible exhibition and sale. etc.

First up is Iktomi, because he is my most constant brain-child. (He is always in my head, commenting on everything ever with his narcissistic, pessimistic ways.)

Note: Iktomi 'Simon' Weaver is based (somewhat loosely?) on the Lakota spider trickster of the same name, however with obvious artistic liberty. My Iktomi has pale-blue skin, and does not wear red and yellow paint. He does, however, have dark rings painted around his eyes. He is also partly based on the African spider trickster, Anansi, because I found it very interesting that those two such figures are so similar, given the areas of 'myth' origin. [ I should also note that Iktomi Weaver has an older 'brother/kin', Anansir Weaver who is based on Anansi...]
Finally, both of my spider-brothers are based on the Orb Weaver, the symbolism of a spider in it's web (representative of the universe, where the spider sits in the middle and observes all), and the notion of weaving and fates/destinies.
To put it very basically (and kind of misleadingly. I really have to go into more detail on this --) Iktomi sees the past, and Anansir sees the future.
