Dapper, quite.

Re-posted from Mockingbirds - DeadSouls Blog.
-------------------

Weeks and weeks after the HSC exams are finished, it is just now that I can finally relax. After stressing an awful extensive amount, I finished my portfolio, and attended my SCA interview, and now I am eagerly awaiting a number of possible get togethers with friends and a Green Day concert this upcoming Friday. (I'll just point it out right now, that if my grammar or phrasing seem sloppy or poorly thought out, it's because I'm in 'French-brain' right now, thanks to a bunch of songs and their lyrics, and also because I haven't actually been able to sit and read in a while --- another reason for my lack of updates on here)

First up, the Interview. It wasn't a bad as I had thought it would be. Just like with my HSC french speaking exam, I managed to get myself in such a state of nerves, that even if I moved a little, I'd feel overwhelmingly nauseous. The only remedy to this was an enormous amount of water. But strangely, when my name was called, all the nerves seemed to disappear, and were replaced with what I swear must have been some alternate side or personality of mine. It was like the cheerful face my sister changes into when she is in similar positions. I'd think of it in such a way that I am the meek, pasty and socially awkward side, who wears sweaters and glasses and keeps to a fantasy world within her sketchbooks, and the other is the one who wears their hair all stood up, and in outlandish clothing and big boots. Which is actually based on how much more... outspoken and such that I feel when I do wear what I call me "AFP" boots (which really don't look anything like hers, except that they come up to just under the knee).
ANYWAY, the interviewers were far less scary than I had initially thought. They were actually quite dapper and nice, and actually offered me water. And they smiled. Smiling is very good, because it reassures my angst-side, even if it was insincere.

I don't find out if I'm in until January 5th, so it's definately going to be in the back of my mind until then.

------

On the interview day, while in Rozelle, my Ma and I went into a bunch of the trendy 'recycled' clothing stores, and for once I actually found some NICE dresses that fit me! Usually everything is WAY too big, which I put down to people thinking that vintage or 'used' is trendy and hip. In a way, it is, because so many people are doing it now, but I like finding things in Op-shops and Thrift stores because of the way a lot of the older clothing is made, and the cuts are much more flattering for me. APPARENTLY, the 'tunic' look is ALL thats 'in' in modern fashion, and that just makes me look like I'm a lady-boy in a dress. Seriously. The two dresses I bought are fitted, and you can actually tell I'm a girl~

My Ma was looking through the records and vinyls they had, and she showed me one because it was called "The Paris I Love", knowing that I am in love with Frenchie stuff. (How I miss my French class at school!) I wasn't going to buy it, but then I noticed it had La Vie en Rose on it, which is pretty much my favourite song right now, so I bought it, and I've been playing it over and over, annoying everyone.

-------

I'm going to see Green Day with my sister this Friday, and I am quite excited about it. Except, I'm also kind of scared and nervous because we're in the standing zone and I'm pretty sure that because a lot of Green Day fans like to mosh, and because it's all ages, we're going to get crushed, and bruised up something bad.

OH WELL, C'EST LA VIE, N'EST-CE PAS?

-------

Peace,
B

Portfolio!

Fri Oct 30, 2009, 9:41 PM
Ok, so I've been accepted into the interview round of Sydney College of the Arts, and obviously I'm going to need a portfolio. They've asked for 10 images, with some being observational drawings, which I suck at but whatever.

I've been drawing keys from my skeleton key collection, and candle holders and stuff like that. BUT I WILL NOT PUT THEM UP HERE BECAUSE THEY ARE SHAME. And there are people who are SO much better at realistic & observational stuff, so much that it makes me cringe and feel sorry for them if they have to see my bad attempts at it.

So, aside from probably the two pages full of observational sketches I'll put in, I'm wondering what other works I should include. Be it anything from my dA account, or stuff of mine you've seen elsewhere and were impressed with. Or just give suggestions of the different mediums/media I should include.

I'VE NEVER MADE A PORTFOLIO BEFORE, MAN. D8

And as such, I've only got a basic idea of what I should include. I KNOW A LOT OF YOU ARE OLDER/MORE ACCOMPLISHED ARTISTICALLY THAN ME, so please... uh... help? If you help, then I'd consider you most wonderful and say that you rock! P-please?!

DDMG (Dreams Make No...)

... That is the title of my YR 12, Visual Arts BOW.
The one which I submitted yesterday, all complete and finished, and with a wave of relief, but also with a sense of loss... (The rest of this can be read over at my journal.)

There are pictures of it, the painting/drawing. Not the book. Well... yeah, there is one of the cover of the book, but none of the inside... THE JOURNAL EXPLAINS WHY.

Really, I'm just trying to draw attention to my blogger.

Also, I redesigned dead souls, but i'm not sure if i mentioned it here already, so I am mentioning it now.

It looks a lot better! R-Really!

And now I am off to play the sims.

Meme

I kinda nicked this meme from 2x2x2's journal.

(Yeah, I have a day off to study, but I'm on here instead, because for the subject in particular I have to study, I have no notes! Yay for fail.)

【Artist Baton】

◆ Your name?
Bee (It's short for something) Willoughby

◆ If possible, your age?
17

◆ When did you start drawing?
Since I can remember, and probably before that. I was really really little. I don't mean short either - cause I'm still short - but I was really young.

◆ Which hand do you use for drawing?
Right.

◆ Which is easier to draw - male or female?
I- I can't really say. When I draw either, people get them mixed up and so I don't try to explain it anymore. I just draw really femmy boys, which is probably why people think my girls are boys? Uh... but I like drawing andro-boys more... Because I like drawing boy torsos?

◆ Which is easier to draw - long hair or short hair?
Most of my characters have short hair (whether it be straight, or wavy or curly) but a few of them have long hair. This is not because I think long hair is harder to draw - it's not - but because I am lame and all my people look the same. They are both equal to draw.

◆ Is it easier to draw the head facing towards the right or the left?
It depends. I would say usually I tend to subconsciously draw heads facing towards the viewers left, but sometimes I surprise myself and draw some pretty neat ones facing the opposite.

◆ Is it easier to draw the side view of the face or the front view?
It's kinda easier for me to draw the front view, because I've been doing it for longer? Haha. Well, in any case, I still like to draw profiles, but it just takes me longer.

◆ What do you have problems in drawing?
Bare feet and feet in general. Also, looking through my gallery, it is quite obvious I have problems drawing backgrounds, scenery and landscapes.

◆ What do you like to draw?
Faces, andro-boys, people in corsets and stockings, things/people with more than two arms.

◆ Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?
I used to try to be all "Woo. Lookit me, I'm on a computer." and do a lot of computer/digital based stuff (mostly colouring), but I started using watercolours and my use of traditional media kind of grew from there. So I guess I'd say I'm more of a traditional artist, but I am capable of digital stuff too, when I feel like it.

◆ Where do you start drawing from?
I draw a circle roughly where I want the head to be. Draw a V shape on the bottom of the circle, to form an 'anime' head shape, and then I draw the nose (another V...) and the mouth... and the eyes... and so on. Then I do everything else from there. But uh, I don't draw anime... Just so it's clear.

◆ What is your drawing habit that you are aware of?
When I'm drawing expressions people pointed out to me that I sometimes pull the expression that I'm drawing. I don't do it as a reference thing, it's completely subconscious. ... yes.

◆ Any tips for coloring/shading?
For digital stuff, all I do is use the airbrush/soft pixel brush in PS, with the opacity set really low, and build layers which decrease in er... area, I guess. I kinda do the same with paints, otherwise I don't do shading much at all.

◆ How long does it take to finish a piece of art?
I never count. I never time myself. I'm not that kind of person. It depends how content and happy I feel when I'm painting/drawing it. If I'm not too enthused then usually I don't take long at all, or I don't finish it. If I like something, I still don't take long, because I want to get it finished so I can be all "Look ma!" (but not really, cause I hardly show 'real life' people my stuff...)

◆ What music do you listen to while you draw?
Depends on the mood of the drawing. Usually I listen to a lot of Placebo and The Cure (their more downbeat stuff), if I want something to have lots of blues or greys in the actual drawing/painting. Otherwise, I'll listen to anything. Amanda Palmer/The Dresden Dolls, and Ben Folds are good for an upbeat, quirky type draw.

◆ How long does it take you to come up with an idea?
Usually, it's that I'll see/hear something that will spark a thought, and that turns into an idea. Words also help (thus, why lots of my stuff has words in it, i suppose). I just make stuff up.

◆ Your favorite drawing utensils?
Mechanical Pencil, (any) watercolour paints (well, not any. so long as they're in tubes... not those kiddie ones that come in those plastic paint pallets) and pigment ink markers/pens, and sharpies. black ones.

◆ Your favorite color/the color that you use a lot?
It's not my favourite colour, because my favourite colours are red, dark purple, lime green and yellow, but I tend to use a lot of greys and light blues (phthalo blue? thats what the paint tube says). But I also like pink (for hair).

◆ Your favorite style(s)?
A lot of the artists on here (which I totally devWatch), and a lot of web comic artists, like Yuko Ota, J. Liebes (YEAH, THATS RIGHT), Riana Moller, Liz Prince, Dave McKean and a whole bunch of other people who I feel mean for not mentioning. But seriously there are A LOT.

◆ What kind of artist are you aiming for?
One which can shift back and forth from many differing 'types' of artists? Seriously, I'd be happy just to be drawing.

◆ Thank you.
Now please fill in the next columns by writing the names of the artists that match the criterea. Artists tagged must fill in this baton.
